Mussoorie is located about 35km from Dehradun, in Uttarakhand. It is at an elevation of 2005m above sea level, on the foothills of Garhwal Himalayas. The buses take the NH58 from Delhi and this journey takes about eight to nine hours. You can also use this route to drive down from Delhi to Mussoorie and it will take around the same time to cover the 290km. Those who want to travel by train can opt for the Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Express that departs from Delhi and reaches Dehradun in five hours. Just outside the railway station, close to the main bus stop, is a taxi stand that allows you to hire private taxis to drive down to Mussoorie. This is everything about Mussoorie. The local Garhwali cuisine is delicious and uses a lot of lentils and rice. One of the dishes that comprise the local cuisine is Bhatt, which is made with soya beans and kulath. Be sure to try out a type of vada made from urad dal. It is steamed on one side and cooked on the other side. Other dishes to savour include Aloo ke Gutke, Malta juice, Bhangjeera, Bal Mithai, Jhanghora ki Kheer, and Singodi.
