The state of West Bengal is well-known as the cultural capital of India. The city of Kolkata, which was the capital during the British Raj, still retains many of the edifices with architectural influences from the era and the cultural impact from the colonial rule.

Situated in the east of the country, West Bengal is renowned for its food and cultural activities. It is also home to a few of the most notable artists and writers of the country. It used to be the capital of the British Raj in Colonial India and has many distinctive features influenced by the English ways. Kolkata is well-known for its diverse range of cuisines and also for typical Bengali delicacies with fish and different meats; they are the culmination of the various cultures and ethnicities present in the state. The official languages are English, Bengali, and Hindi and all three are spoken widely across the state.
Places to Visit
Kolkata, the capital city, has many sprawling mansions, and other places of historical significance. The Indian Museum and the Victoria Memorial are two notable places that a tourist must visit, amongst many other locations, like Shantiniketan.
