Jaipur Tourism Guide

About Jaipur Tourism

Capital and the largest city of the royal state of Rajasthan, Jaipur is also called the Pink City due to the pink color that most buildings have. The city has earned a tag of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is also home to a couple of awe-inspiring World Heritage Site buildings. Jaipur is a part of the much-famous Golden Triangle tourist circuit of West India along with Delhi and Agra. It attracts visitors from across India and the world who come to revel in its splendour and history.

About Jaipur

Jaipur has the distinction of being one of the first planned cities in ancient India. It is about 268km from New Delhi, the national capital. The City was founded by Jai Singh II, who was the King of Amer, in 1727, to accommodate the needs of a growing population in Amer and the water scarcity that it was facing. It took four years to build the city, and when HRH Prince of Wales, Albert Edward, was to visit the city, Jai Singh II, painted it pink and that earned the city its moniker.

Jaipur is located in an arid, semi-desert region. It has three seasons, namely winter, spring-cum-summer, and monsoon. The winter is dry and warm while the summer from March through July is extremely hot, with temperatures soaring to 45 deg or more. Hence, summer is not the ideal season to visit. The monsoon season, though short, is quite intense and will mar your sightseeing itinerary. So, the best time to visit Jaipur is from November through February, in winter, when the weather is salubrious and perfect for sightseeing and exploring the hidden treasures of the city.

As a capital city, Jaipur has an airport. The Jaipur International Airport is about 10km from downtown and is well-connected to major cities, such as Mumbai and Delhi. It is also connected to other cities across the world. The city has three railway stations, at Jaipur, Durgapura, and Gandhinagar, and hence, ensures connection to most cities, like New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. Jaipur is also connected to NH8, NH11, and NH12, with New Delhi being 235km away and Agra about 220km. You can also take private or public buses to reach Jaipur. Jaipur has a lot to offer discerning travellers. Spend a few days here to immerse yourself in its rich cultural glory and also to feel like royalty.

Jaipur offers a stunning gastronomic adventure to food connoisseurs. Dal Bathi Churma is a must-eat dish and comprises dal, soft bread, and a sweet made from spices, sugar, and flour. The three dishes are served together and offer a burst of flavours. Ghevar and Lapsi are desserts that will satisfy your sugar cravings and leave you yearning for more. When in Jaipur, you have to try Ker Sangri, which is a desert vegetable and cooked with spices and served with pickle and bajra ki roti. Other dishes that you should indulge your tastebuds in are gatte ki sabji, laal maas, Rajasthani kadi (served with boiled rice), mawa kachori, kheema bati, and the sumptuous Rajasthani thali.
