This includes Malligai Maanagar (City of Jasmine), Koodal Nagaram (City of Junctions), Thoonga Nagaram (City that never sleeps), Koil Maanagar (Temple city), and Naanmada Koodal (junction of four towers which refers to the four major temples that Madurai is renowned for).


Madurai has a hot and dry climate throughout the year. The best time to visit Madurai however is during the winter season that is from December to February. During this time, the weather in Madurai is neither too hot nor too cold. The climate is very enjoyable for tourists during this time of the year.
