About Baramulla

Baramulla is a beautiful city in the Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir state in northern India, located on the bank of the Jhelum River downstream from Srinagar, the capital state. It is also known as Varmul in Kashmir. It is one of the 20 districts present in the North Indian territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The city was earlier known as Varahamula. The name “Baramulla” means “Boar’s Molar Place,” which comes from two Sanskrit words Varaha (Boar) and Mula.


This city has a humid subtropical climate, with cold, snowy winters and hot summers. An ideal time to visit the destination is from April to July, generally the summer season there. People who are interested in undertaking skiing can choose to visit this place in winter. During winter, Baramulla witnessed a temperature drop of up to -10 degrees Celsius. In short, it is a treat for your eyes and a feast for the soul throughout the year.


Tourists can directly take a train to Baramulla. It is the last station on the 199 km Banihal-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line. The most recent connect the railway's connection with Srinagar, Qazigund, and Anantnag has given tourism a new shape. In further, they are also planning to connect with Jammu and Banihal. Sheikh-ul-Alam International Airport at Srinagar, 60 km southeast, and the Jammu Airport in the winter if you're traveling via air. Take a bus from the Jammu bus stand or cabs or buses from the Lal Chowk bus stand and Tourist Reception Center Srinagar to travel via road.


When you visit Baramulla, don’t forget to try out the exceptional three local food and drinks that you must have. Cheese Kalari, a traditionally ripened cheese made from cow’s or goat’s milk. The cheese is often flavored with various spices, then topped with chopped vegetables. Noon Chai is a tea-based drink that has its origins in Kashmir made with green tea and mixed with a pinch of salt, baking soda, and optionally milk.
